Starting it up

We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill.

After finally deciding to tackle this blog project in earnest, I spent most of this evening trying to make it look decent and come up with a title that doesn’t suck. I like this one; simple, a bit hackneyed, sort of cliche if you don’t know about the fabulous book I lifted it from. The quote above and this blog’s title are from Johnathon Livingston Seagull, a short, sweet, and beautiful book by Richard Bach.

I’ve read the book multiple times, and even if I don’t completely understand it (I’m no good at philosophy, really) I still come away feeling as if whatever spirituality I might have has been rekindled. I own a copy of the book in French, a bit silly considering I’ve lost most of the French I ever learned. But maybe tonight I’ll sit down and read it alongside my English version.

These days any challenge (finally clearing the clutter in my apartment, putting together a cat tree, keeping dishes out of the sink) is welcome, as long as it doesn’t involve legal scholarship. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to avoid that much longer. My bar review class starts this Thursday. But for a few more days, at least, I can take some time to fly with the gulls.
